16.02 Sochi 2014: Sweden Reaches Women's Hockey Semis
SOCHI, February 15 (R-Sport) — Sweden reached the semifinals of the Sochi Olympic women's hockey tournament Saturday, stealing a 4-2 comeback win over Finland.
In Monday's semifinal, the Swedes will face the United States and try to avoid a repeat of their 9-1 humiliation at the hands of the Americans in Vancouver four years ago.
Emma Eliasson, the Turin Olympic silver medalist, brought Sweden the victory against Finland, scoring the game-winning goal four minutes before the final buzzer, before Emma Nordin sealed the result with an empty-net goal.
Venla Hovi gave Finland the lead before Anna Borgqvist and Lina Wester's goals put Sweden 2-1 ahead five minutes into third period, but 17-year-old Emma Nuutinen tied up the game for Finland just 12 seconds after Wester scored.
For Sweden, the result was revenge for defeat to the Finns in the 2010 bronze medal game.
The gold medal hockey game is February 20.
