11.02 Norway Wins Women’s Cross-Country Ski Sprint at Sochi Olympics
KRASNAYA POLYANA, Russia, February 11 (R-Sport) – Norway’s Maiken Caspersen Falla skied to Olympic gold in the women’s cross-country sprint Tuesday, beating more renowned athletes.
Falla charged over the line at the Laura Biathlon & Ski Complex to win by 0.38 seconds from fellow Norwegian Ingvild Flugstad Oestberg, who in turn took the silver from Slovenia’s Vesna Fabjan by 0.02 seconds in a photo finish.
It is the second Norwegian cross-country gold of the Games after Marit Bjorgen won the women’s skiathlon Saturday.
Earlier Tuesday, US sprint gold medal favorite Kikkan Randall failed to get past the quarterfinals.
