24.01 Five Die in Triple Blasts in Cairo – Officials
MOSCOW, January 24 (RIA Novosti) – A policeman died in an explosion near the Russian Culture Center in Cairo, one of three deadly attacks in the Egyptian capital on Friday that killed five people and injured scores of others, international media reported, citing security officials.
Eight others were wounded in the blast near the cultural center, which struck a police car on patrol close to a metro station. It came two hours after a suicide bomber blew up his car outside the main police headquarters, killing at least four people and injuring nearly 50.
The first blast also damaged the nearby Museum of Islamic Art. Officials said a third blast went off outside a police station close to Cairo’s famed Giza Pyramids, but nobody was hurt.
Terrorist attacks have plagued law enforcement officers since the Egyptian army deposed Islamist President Mohammed Morsi in July following large-scale street protests against his rule.
