POLITICS

A new round of talks on Irans controversial nuclear program will begin in Geneva on Tuesday. Despite recent statements about the possibility of a breakthrough from the Iranian leadership, Russian diplomatic sources said they expect the meeting with cautious optimism.

The goals of Russias draft 2014-2016 budget are unrealistic, the Russian Audit Chamber said in a report. The document says the budget, to be considered by parliament next week, also contradicts President Vladimir Putins May decrees, his last budget message and previously declared principles.

The Russian Investigative Committee has launched a criminal case against Vladislav Baumgertner, the former CEO of Russian fertilizer giant Uralkali who had been detained in the Belarusian capital Minsk on suspicion of abuse of office. The committee is set to start preparing documents for Baumgertners extradition to Russia soon.

Evraz, one of Russias biggest steel producers, will end production at its US plant, Claymont Steel. The company has already stopped its production facility in Italy and is now searching for buyers for its assets in the Czech Republic and South Africa.

OIL & GAS

No Russian natural gas delivery projects are among the nearly one hundred gas transportation projects, approved by the European Commission for support until 2020. The European Commission is set to meet the growing demand for gas by buying liquefied natural gas (LNG) and coal, while Gazprom risks finding no consumers for its new Europe-oriented pipeline projects.

CONSUMER

Russian consumer watchdog Rospotrebnadzor is set to shut down a vegetable warehouse in a Moscow suburb, targeted by anti-migrant riots during a night of violent clashes in southern Moscow. The warehouse accounts for up to 40-50 percent of all fruit and vegetables sold in the Russian capitals small food shops, although large supermarket chains are unlikely to be affected.

DEFENSE

The Russian Defense Ministry published Monday its new concept of defense property management. The document, drafted under Minister Sergei Shoigus personal control, is necessary for streamlining the ministrys real estate transactions.

Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu will make his first visit to Brazil and Peru to discuss wide-range military cooperation with the two states including the sale of short-range air defense equipment and tanks.

SOCIETY

Foreigners may soon need special permission to buy or rent real estate in Russia. The Economic Development Ministry is considering pushing for such a law in a bid to prevent creation of ethnic ghettoes. Such a law could be in force by 2015.

The Russian Investigative Committee has launched a criminal case into the recent anti-migrant riots in southern Moscow. Meanwhile, the State Duma is to adopt in the second and third readings on Tuesday a bill making local authorities personally responsible for ethnically motivated violence on their territories. Under the bill, officials will be sacked for failing to properly manage situation in their regions.
