At least ten gunmen attacked the Russian Embassy in the Libyan capital Tripoli on Wednesday evening. One of them was killed by local security forces.

Thursday marks the 20th anniversary of the 1993 Russian constitutional crisis known as black October. Polls by VTsIOM and Levada Center reveal that the majority of Russians still firmly disapprove of the use of military force during these events.

Russian President Vladimir Putin revealed his upbeat view of Russias future economic growth at an economic forum on Wednesday, saying that the country is close to becoming Europes largest economy.

European Central Bank Chief Mario Draghi has again warned of the weakness of the European economy, under pressure both domestically and internationally. However, the European currency was at an eight-month high against the dollar, at $1.36 dollars to the euro.

Economic hardships in both the United States and Russia and thorny bilateral relations have not prevented Americans from investing in the Russian economy. According to official figures, direct US investment into Russia in January-June was at $107.2 billion, up 16.9 percent on the same period last year.

The Russian government and management of Alrosa, the worlds biggest diamond producer, announced a plan to sell a collective 16 per cent stake in the company for an estimated $1-1.5 billion.

A joint venture by Russia's largest private oil company LUKoil, state-run Rosneft and Gazprom, has been granted permission to develop shelf deposits in the northern sector of the Caspian sea.

For the first time since the 2009 crisis, Russian carmaker Avtovaz reported losses amid a slump on the Russian car market. The company lost about 400 million rubles ($12.4 million) because of the economic problems in Cyprus.

Russian telecommunications companies will be allowed to build LTE networks using frequencies previously occupied by GSM networks.

According to a survey by Russian pollster VTsIOM, only 18 percent of Russians are familiar with the constitution. Every fifth Russian citizen said he is absolutely unfamiliar with the countrys fundamental law.
