25.10 Russian Man Threatens to Kill Grandmothers Cat in Extortion Plot
MOSCOW, October 25 (RIA Novosti) A Russian man is accused by Urals police of having threatened to kill his grandmothers cat if she failed to give him money, local police said Friday.
The man, 20, had victimized his 71-year-old grandmother in her village house near Yekaterinburg for two months, forcing the woman to withdraw money from her bank account and also borrow money from her neighbors to appease him, police said in a statement.
The woman said the final straw that pushed her to turn to police was when the man tried to torture her cat, Timofei. The man threw a knot around the cats neck and tightened it up to show his grandmother what the cats murder would be like. He then locked the elderly woman in a cellar until she agreed to meet his demands, the statement said.
However, instead of going to a bank, this time the grandmother went straight to a police department. The attacker was detained shortly afterward. He faces up to four years in prison if convicted of a string of charges, including extortion and robbery.
