25.10 Murmansk Region to Establish 3 New Natural Landmarks

MURMANSK, October 25 (RIA Novosti) - The Murmansk Region Government plans to establish three new natural landmarks to protect rare and endangered plants listed in the Red Data Books of Russia and the Murmansk Region, Minister of Natural Resources of the Murmansk Region Alexei Smirnov said.

The landmarks include two nature reserves in the Tersky District, Hyam-Ruchei creek and Klyuchevoye Marsh on the Turiy Peninsula, as well as the Irin-Goda natural landmark in the Kandalaksha District.

The reserves are home to several dozen varieties of northern flora, including Calypso bulbosa orchid, Cotoneaster cinnabarinus, baneberry, and Helianthemum arcticum.

The reserves, designated as specially protected territories, which prohibits any commercial activity, are established to meet Russia's international obligations to preserve biodiversity, the Minister noted.
