13.10 Kazakh Diplomats Robbed at Gunpoint in South Africa

ASTANA, October 13 (RIA Novosti) A group of Kazakh diplomats, who arrived in South Africa to prepare the Kazakh presidents visit, were robbed at gunpoint en route from an airport, the Kazakh Foreign Ministry said on Saturday.

The delegation, led by Deputy Foreign Minister Kairat Sarybai, was travelling from an airport in South Africas largest city Johannesburg to Pretoria, one of the countrys three capitals, when a car in their convoy was blocked by armed men.

"None of the Kazakh envoys was injured. The head of the delegation travelled in another car and was not affected by this incident, the ministry said in a statement.

South African police investigates the incident. The Kazakh diplomats have already returned to their home country.

It is unclear whether the incident would affect the planned visit of Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev in December.
