04.09 Shelling of Russian Embassy in Damascus
MOSCOW, September 4 (RIA Novosti) Russias Foreign Ministry on Wednesday condemned, as a barbaric act, the shelling earlier that day of the countrys embassy in Damascus.
Lebanese and Syrian diplomats had said that a mortar shell, apparently launched by Syrian rebels, landed close to the Russian Embassy building on Wednesday.
The Russian side once again reiterates its call to those who can influence Syrian militants to exert their influence so that such barbaric acts cease, a representative of the Foreign Ministrys press service told RIA Novosti.
The embassy continues to work as normal. There are no casualties among the embassy staff, the representative said.
