Acting Moscow mayor Sergei Sobyanin won the election for mayor in the Russian capital, gaining 51.27 percent of votes with 99.17 percent of ballots counted, avoiding a run-off. His closest rival, opposition leader Alexei Navalny, gained 27.3 percent, far higher than polls had suggested, in a shock result for the Kremlin.
