07.09 Obama Administration to Brief Congress on Syria Sept. 9 - Media
MOSCOW, September 7 (RIA Novosti) High-ranking officials from US President Barack Obamas administration will brief the House of Representatives on the presidents request to use military force in Syria in a closed session on Monday evening, Politico said on Friday.
National Security Adviser Susan Rice, Director of National Intelligence James Clapper, Secretary of State John Kerry, Joint Chiefs Chairman Martin Dempsey and Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel are slated to appear before the House.
The Senate is to vote on the resolution on Wednesday. The resolution, if passed, should also be approved by the House of Representatives before the president can sign it.
US lawmakers continue to debate whether or not to allow Obama to take action against President Bashar al-Assads regime, which the United States has accused of being behind a deadly chemical weapons attack last month.
The text of the resolution approved Wednesday by the Senate Foreign Relations Committee would permit Obama to order a limited military strike against Syria that would not exceed 90 days and would involve no American troops on the ground for combat operations.
The US Department of State spokeswoman said on Friday that the Congress is likely to approve the resolution.
