08.08 Hackers Break into RIA Novostis Twitter Accounts
MOSCOW, August 8 (RIA Novosti) - Two of RIA Novostis Twitter accounts were subjected to a cyber attack on Wednesday night with hackers posting false information on them.
Hackers broke into Twitter accounts of the agencys International Multimedia Press Center and of RIA Novosti Deutsch leaving false tweets about the death of former Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev. Both tweets were removed within five minutes after the cyber attack.
RIA Novosti launched an internal investigation into the attack and also prepares a request for the Federal Security Service (FSB) and the Prosecutors Office to investigate the hacking of the state news agency.
This was not the first cyber attack on the news agency this year. In May 2012, the RIA Novosti website was hit by a DDos attack from some 2,500 IP-addresses, and the light version of the site had to be temporary put online. Another DDos attack on the agencys website was carried out in July.
