21.08 Bomb-Making Chemicals Seized in Pakistan - Report
MOSCOW, August 21 (RIA Novosti) - Some 100 metric tons of bomb-making materials have been seized in Pakistan, media cited officials as saying.
Police uncovered a cache, which contained chemicals that are used to make bombs, wires and detonators, in Quetta, the capital of southwest Pakistans Balochistan province, the BBC quoted the Frontier Corps Col. Maqbool Shah as saying.
The materials were similar to those used in two attacks in Quetta earlier this year that left over 120 people dead, Shah said as quoted by the British broadcaster.
Earlier, two men were arrested who were found to be driving a truck with 15 metric tons of potassium chlorate.
Shah told Reuters news agency that 80 drums had been prepared and only lacked a detonator to be blown up. Ten people were arrested, he also said.
Taliban attacks and sectarian violence are common in Balochistan.
