03.07 New Holland to Introduce Petersburg to Dutch culture

ST. PETERSBURG, July 3 (RIA Novosti) The Orange Days festival of contemporary Dutch culture is set to open Thursday at the New Holland exhibition center. The event organizers have promised that the forum will play a significant role in the wider cultural collaboration between the Netherlands and St. Petersburg.

The festival will officially open on July 4 but film screenings from the International Rotterdam Film Festival began on Monday. Visitors will be able to browse through books by Dutch writers in the library. An architecture summer school, organized by Dutch architect Paul Meurs, will also open in New Holland this Thursday. Ten students from Russia and the Netherlands will work on a project of this territorys future development.

The best concepts will be put into practice during the reconstruction of the island beginning next autumn, a festival spokesperson said.

Me and My Models, a photo exhibition by young Dutch photographer Jan Hoek, will open on July 4 in the festival's arts space. Famous foodie Marije Vogelzang, known for her food-based installations and performances, will teach a workshop on Friday, July 5.

The Summer in New Holland program is the first phase of a major renovation project for New Holland island. By 2017 the arts space will have been transformed into a multi-purpose cultural, commercial and tourist centre, in major makeover work scheduled to start this September.
