17.07 3 Killed, 5 Injured in St. Petersburg Traffic Accident

MOSCOW, July 17 (RIA Novosti) - Three people were killed and five were injured in a head-on collision in Russias second largest city of St. Petersburg, local Emergencies Ministry department said on Wednesday.

According to the department, a Lada car collided with a Mazda car at about 3:00 a.m. local time on the Kolpinskoye highway.

Eight people were harmed in the accident, three of them died, the department said in a statement.

About 30,000 people die in traffic accidents in Russia annually. The accidents are attributed to a poor condition of roads and traffic violations, including drunk driving, running red lights and crossing into the oncoming lane.
