The 31st Russia-EU summit ended in Yekaterinburg on June 4. Russian President Vladimir Putin discussed trade restrictions, visa issues, the economic situation in the eurozone, the civil war in Syria and other international issues. But at a news conference they had to answer questions on other issues - NGOs, protests in Turkey, the departure of economist Sergei Guriev and same-sex marriages.

Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said he would resign soon so that early elections can be held on September 8. According to pollsters, 54 percent of Muscovites support the mayor. Currently, Sobyanin in Russias fourth most trusted politician, right after President Vladimir Putin, Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev and Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu.

More than 60 countries signed the UN Arms Trade Treaty (ATT) at the UN headquarters in New York on Thursday. The treaty is intended to regulate the global arms trade.

Russias federal statistics service has recorded sharp inflation growth in May. Inflation grew to 0.7 percent on average nationwide last month, above the forecast increase of 0.5-0.6 percent,. The inflation was most felt in Kalmykia, where consumer prices rose 1.6 percent in that period. The inflation in two largest cities, Moscow and St. Petersburg traditionally was above average, with 0.9 and 0.8 percent, respectively.
