The conflict between Moldova and its breakaway region of Transdnestr may again turn into an armed conflict. As Moldova moves to intensify its contacts and cooperation with the European Union, the authorities in Transdnestr have approved a law on the unrecognized republics border, allowing Tiraspol to establish control of border settlements currently under the jurisdiction of Chisinau.
