* Moderate cleric Hassan Rouhani will become the next Iranian president after gathering enough votes in the first round of the countrys presidential election to avoid a run-off, according to official results announced.

* The creation of a no-fly zone in war-torn Syria would contravene international law, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said, amid media speculation that the US plans to do just that.

* The Russian Foreign Ministry has described a resolution on Syria passed by the United Nations Human Rights Council as biased and said that it is an attempt to legitimize one particular Syrian opposition group.

RUSSIA

* Russian reporter Arkady Babchenko, allegedly detained in Istanbul by police and beaten up on Friday, will be deported from Turkey, the Russian Consulate in Istanbul said.

* Three people were hospitalized following a mass brawl involving several dozen people that took place in the center of Moscow in the early hours of Saturday morning, the local police department said.
