02.06 Kuznetsova Beats Kerber to Make French Open Quarterfinals
MOSCOW, June 2 (R-Sport) Russias Svetlana Kuznetsova beat eighth seed Angelique Kerber in a rollercoaster match on Sunday to reach the quarterfinals of the French Open.
Unseeded Kuznetsova, ranked 39 in the world, broke Kerber five times to grab a 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 win, leveling their head-to-head record at 2-2.
Kuznetsova, the 2009 champion, will have the toughest possible opponent in the next round if world No. 1 Serena Williams extends her 27-match unbeaten run against Italys Roberta Vinci later in the day.
