19.05 At Least 50 Injured After Car Rams Into Crowd in Virginia
MOSCOW, May 19 (RIA Novosti) - At least 50 people were injured after a car ploughed into a crowd of people participating in a parade in the state of Virginia, CNN reported.
The incident occurred on Saturday afternoon during the Hiker's Parade at the annual Trail Days festival in the town of Damascus near the border with the state of Tennessee.
FoxNews.com reported citing Washington County director of emergency management Pokey Harris that no fatalities were registered, while victims injuries ranged from critical to superficial.
Some of the victims were flown by helicopters to regional hospitals, while others received medical assistance at the scene of the incident.
Damascus Police Chief Bill Nunley said at a news conference that the car that struck the crowd was a 1997 Cadillac and its driver could have suffered an unspecified medical problem while driving it.
Witnesses described the driver as an elderly man, but Nunley revealed neither the drivers name nor his age, FoxNews.com reported.
